This model has two different animated states, idle and active. The idle animation features only small movements and and is played all the time whilst the machine isnt being used. The second animated state, active, has lot of movement and is played only when a player purchases a "gum-ball" from the machine. The active animation took the most time to make. The animations are shown in the clip shown below.

Maya Rigging Set Up

I created this rig from scratch using the joint tool in Maya, I rigged the model like this because creating my own rig allowed me to make very specific animations.

This model was created using Maya 2017, Mudbox 2017 and Substance Painter 2.

The Spider that sits on top of the machine was created using Mudbox, I started with a sphere and sculpted the basic shape. I then retopolagised the model and continued to add fine details. Finally I baked the detail to create the low polly model seen in the final product. The rest of the modeling was done inside of Maya

I used Maya to unwrap this model, and although the model looks good overall, there are some small issues with the unwrap. For example, the model also had a lot of irregular shapes which were difficult to unwrap and don't look at good as I had hoped for.

The textures for this model were created using Substance Painter 2 and Substance Designer 5. All of the textures fit on to one 2K texture map. The textures on the final model are made up of the following maps.

Spider Gum-ball machine $

This is a Halloween themed American style "Gum-Ball Machine" The concept is based around the "Gobble Gum Machine" from "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3". In the original game, the machine dispenses "Gum-balls" that give the players power-ups in the game. I wanted to recreate this for a project I was working on for Halloween, so I changed the design and made it my own.

How was this made?
